2007-2008 Results

The Robes Project 2007-2008 was a huge success in its second year of operation of the cold weather night shelter. We learned a lot during the project, which will help us greatly as we move forward in providing the best experience possible for volunteers and guests. The personal bonds and respect that developed during the project was truly inspirational for all involved.

In all, in winter 2008, a total of 42 guests were provided with winter night shelter. The aim was to try to help all of the referred guests improve their personal situation. Some guests stayed with the project longer than the 14 day respite we aim for, as some situations take longer to improve and take affect then others. Of the guests that were in the project, 32 of them improved their situation regarding accommodation either in private accommodation, or hostel. Many got jobs and those that could not at least became closer to obtaining the necessary documents needed to either find work or apply for some type of benefit in the short term. A consistent theme from the guests was that the project allowed them to concentrate on the factors that led to their homelessness as they knew they would be sheltered, fed, and supported whilst in the Robes Project.

The Robes Project is in the process of becoming a registered charity which will hopefully provide more access to public and government grants and funding. It takes a substantial amount of money to allow the project to operate, and if not for the generous contributions of many people and organizations, the project simply would not exist.

In winter 2007-2008, total expenditures to run the project were £32,000 for the 4 months. A substantial portion of that amount was for the salaries of both the Project Co-ordinator & Advocacy Worker. These are the only two “non-volunteer” related roles within the project and necessary positions to ensure the project is organised and guests receive the assistance they require during their time with Robes.
